A Predawn Walk
The druid and I got up at an obnoxiously early hour after fitfully sleeping for a few hours, got showered, socially acceptably dressed, and I got him ready for a possible day of employment. We live a mile away from a temp agency that excels in finding short gigs for the clients who are silly enough to arrive at their doors at 5:30am.
We made our way there, talking quietly and holding hands, and even found a new shortcut with which to shave a couple minutes off of the already-short walk. We arrived at the office and the druid steeled himself for a possible day of (hopefully light to medium) physical labor… and found that the office was closed on Sundays.
I had something to deposit at the bank anyway, and so we walked a short distance away to a bus stop, and sat for a bit. It is Sunday and the bus schedules are anemic. We looked at each other, decided we didn’t want to wait another half hour, and tromped our way to downtown Portland.
The city was largely deserted, with a few random joggers, bicyclists, and the occasional proper vehicle leisurely rolling by. We remarked on how quiet it was, and that we were both enjoying the unscheduled walk together. We arrived at the bank without incident, three miles away, and then made our way to where a bus would pick us up for the ride back.
We were even at the convenience store near home before it opened–I don’t remember ever not seeing the “open!” sign lit. We sat around some more, talked, I read a free publication with used vehicles for sale (I am vehicularly challenged at the moment), he dug out the two sandwiches I’d packed for his lunch and offered me one, eventually the store opened, he got his cigarettes, I got some munchies because I couldn’t help myself, and we walked the rest of the way home.
The sky was overcast, the wind absolutely still, and the city was only then beginning to wake up as we made our way up the street to home.
It was a good morning. Of course we spent the next five hours asleep to make up for the rotten attempt before our outing, woke up dazed and confused, but we did greet the morning properly.

Hey – Netchick sent me.
I like the way you write. It is very pleasant to read.
Cheers!

Lovely. After reading the soulmate thing yesterday this makes even more sense. And I like your description: “I am logged in, therefore I am.”
