Group Sound Effects
I was randomly searching for a cappella groups on YouTube last evening, when I stumbled across this:
Amazing choir (Perpetuum Jazzile) uses there hands to stimulate storm
The rubbing of hands, followed by snapping fingers, followed by slapping the lap, followed by (in this case, a very well-choreographed) stomping of feet, followed by more snapping of fingers… I smiled as the hairs on my arms stopped standing at attention, remembering this group exercise from my youth.
In grade school, roughly around the time that report cards came out, all students would be herded into the cafeteria, and presentations made for those who had made honor roll, were rewarded for perfect attendance, and so on. Before the students were excused back to class, they’d sometimes have us do an exercise like this, as a way to amuse us kids for a few more minutes, and send everyone with a feeling of accomplishment, whether a kid got an award/certificate or not.
I asked the druid to view this video, and at the clapse of thunder, he shivered and drew back, gobsmacked that such a simple action could have (pardon the pun) such resounding repercussions. He quite liked the video. Anyway, I asked him if he’d ever done anything like this as a child. I was amazed when he said no, though his school choir did something vocal in which the sum of its parts was much more than what any individual student was doing. He shared that the meditative trance he and the other singers would enter was like nothing else.
I just thought I’d share the video. I hope it helped spark a happy memory of your childhood, too.

we never got to do anything fun like that
