Things and Stuff and Ness and Such

I keep meaning to write in this thing daily, but life sometimes gets in the way.

The druid had a day off a couple of days ago, and so we escaped the house on a rare outing on the west end. After meeting his friend for a few minutes, he asked me what we’d do next.

“Wester!” I declared (yes I realize that is not a word), and so we hopped on the lightrail and continued our spontaneous journey. When the lightrail ended, we hopped on a bus and wester (I do love murdering English) we went. My stated goal was for us to hit a few antique stores he’d pointed out to me on previous journeys.

It turns out that he doesn’t know the town as well as he thought, for we only managed to visit one. But we did stop by our favorite watering hole out there, a really cool pub (no link, alas) that serves traditional English(ish) food. It was a very warm day and the druid was happy to get out of the sunlight and into varied places with AC. We had ourselves matching bowls of soup and different sandwiches. The co-owners know us from previous visits, and the wife of the pair kept testing out different drink mixes and inviting us to test them too. We figured out that Red Rum and Coke do not go well, but Red Rum and lemonade does. They had a smidge of Strawberry Rum left from something or other, and made a flavored Rum & Coke for me that I sipped at and then shoved at the druid.

I texted Shorty, a friend I know who lives out that way, and asked her randomly if she wanted to go bowling, something we did back when we were working at the same place. She made positive noises and kept asking me what time we wanted to meet up, to which I kept replying, “I don’t know! The druid might want another drink and we’re wandering around town.” We finally managed to nail down a time, as the druid was slowing down and I was definitely done. The druid and I hopped the bus back towards civilization, hopped off in front of the bowling alley, and wandered inside to find Shorty already setting up shop at her favorite lane.

I pointed her out to the druid, to which the druid exclaimed, “I know her!” Ha, small world where the druid is concerned, he knows everybody. :P We hugged, they hugged, and we grabbed some bowling balls and sprawled at our lane. We had a fabulous time with two games. I got one strike, one spare, and a few gutterballs. The others faired a little better.

Shorty volunteered her boyfriend to drive us wherever we needed to go, and so after bowling, we walked towards where he would pick us up. Shorty drug us through a Tuesday farmer’s market where we watched a couple street performers, noshed on a couple free blackberries and strawberries, and oogled some antique/classic cars. I flung money at the druid to grab himself some smoked ribs, but he kinda wandered away towards the meeting place, where Shorty’s boyfriend was waiting. It didn’t take much arm-twisting to make him drive us home. The druid was amazed how little time it takes to travel from the far end back to the city–it takes 2.3 hours to get from where we live to the boonies, it only took 15 minutes on a major highway without rush hour traffic.

Shorty and the boyfriend visited for a few minutes, and I completely neglected to shove a couple gourmet cupcakes at them. Ah well, they were soon on their way and as the druid had to work very early the following day, we crashed post haste.

Yesterday was a good day for the druid, he got off of work so early that he missed the worst summer heat of the day which always seems to drain him, and he had enough energy to stay up for quite a few hours after. He dragged over a couple who visit here frequently, we ended up giggling at stupid stuff on YouTube and blathering over beers and wine.

I ate most of the gourmet cupcakes. Andrew and I agree that $30 was too much for a dozen, but hot damn were they good. They made a good breakfast. And lunch. And munchie. *headdesk*
