The Best Whatever
In gearing up for January’s NaBloPoMo theme of “Best”, I’ve been trying to think of entries I could pen, random “bests” that I can dredge out of my head to put to virtual paper.
Trying to think of the “best” whatever is hard for me–nailing down my favorite food, color, whatever, is like nailing Jell-O to the wall. I’ve always been that way. I’m a Gemini, after all, and my preferences seem to flit about more often than most people change their socks.
There were a couple “bests” that I could come up with that are too short to warrant their own entries. To pad my Holidailies entry quota and get my brain in gear with regards to other “bests”, I’d like to share them here:
Best kludge/use of duct tape:
I saw this a couple years ago but it still makes me chuckle. I was strolling through the parking lot at my last apartment, when I glanced over at one of the cars, which made me do a doubletake. A ‘68 Volkswagen Bug convertible, with a soft top made entirely out of duct tape. I couldn’t discern whether any of the original fabric was left underneath where I couldn’t see, but the entire thing was covered in the strong adhesive. They’d used plastic wrap for a back window. It was well-done, and hey, if there was a rip or a loose bit of tape somewhere, all they would have to do is retape that sucker.
Runners up for duct tape include clothes and wallets.
Best weird musical find of the year:
I’m on a Boat (NSFW) by The Lonely Island. A friend called me urgently one afternoon, laughing her head off and describing this video as, “A bunch of white guys trying to rap and look cool, HAHAHA!” I was so amused by this song that I started searching for other songs by these three guys, two of whom went on to become regular cast members on Saturday Night Live, one who became a writer for the same same show. Apparently, back in the day, they made a pilot for a MadTV-type sketch comedy show that they named Awesome Town. Go see it, it’s as silly as Monte Python and as enjoyable as MadTV had been in its first seasons. I’m particularly fond of the “Castaways” segments.
